and it was better then

This spring denotes the 2008 terrarium project I will be undertaking. As you see, I have the vessel above, and will be starting this one in the month of May. I have not decided what the contents will look like quite yet, but I'll be using the Gardening with Terrariums and Sand Sculpture book by Rex Mabe [info]gurdonark sent me a few years ago, vintage 1975, where imagination and container are the only limits. Scuba diving, terrarium construction—these are the kinds of hobbies I always imagined I would entertain myself with. It is only a matter of the doing.
  • my dad used to make beautiful terrariums.... handmade from pieces of colored glass. i wish they had survived my sister and i and the dogs.... i should try to convince him to make them again....

  • If I had a backyard, I would nap in the grass all the time.
    • One of the things on my "wants list" is a hammock for the backyard. I use a lawn chair pretty frequently when it's nice, though—I love to read back there. We also have a patio, but I prefer the grass.
  • off topic

But I wanted to tell you.
On Monday I am going to see a band that sings about sci-fi and sci-fi writers and they throw paperbacks at the crowd.
    • That is awesome. What's the name of this band?
      • Blood Hag, of all things.

I don't know anything about terrariums. I have the vague feeling that we talked about them or had one in elementary school. One of my projects today at work shall be to learn about terrariums!
  • that is awesome. We had a few terrariums when I was a kid & I was obsessed with them, but always a little sad that they didn't have turtles, frogs, and hermit crabs in addition to the plants.
    • I suppose there's no reason you couldn't make one with creatures inside, but I'm not sure how that would affect the plants. I wonder if there's a book out there with such things. Probably counts as having an aquarium, maybe.
